Field Notes: Plenty to Explore and Discover in Soho, NYC

SoHo, is known for having elegant architecture and cobblestone streets, as well as for designer boutiques, fancy chain stores and high-end art galleries.

The neighborhood consists of 26 blocks of approximately 500 buildings, many of them incorporating cast-iron architectural elements. The side streets are also quite special, many of which, are paved in Belgian blocks; providing the right atmospheric backdrop for fashionable crowds, high-end restaurants and other nightlife haunts. In this article, I will be exploring the neighborhood of SoHo in hopes of learning all I can about this historic district.

FUN FACTS: During the colonial period, the land that is now SoHo was part of a grant of farmland given to freed slaves of the Dutch West Indies Company, and the site of the first free Black settlement on Manhattan island.

Art in SoHo

Love the art on the streets of SoHo. You can discover dope inspiration plastered on walls, vans, trash compactors, or just about anything with a surface. I found a Golden Apple nicely nestled on top a building on Prince st.

Shopping

You can literally find anything shopping in Soho. Literally. I had the urge to buy some socks, so I went to Quality Mending and Fun Socks. It felt refreshing to walk into a store, where the staff was chill and welcoming.

Lounge

Citizen M is one of my favorite places to lounge and charge my batteries. They have locations in Times Square and Bowery. The lobby and lounge areas are massive and showcase an impressive collection of high priced artworks. There's also a bar and kitchen that run all day.
